Qur'an Teacher's Rape Against Students Results in 9 Children
jpnn.com, JAWA BARAT - A Qur'an reciting teacher, identified as HW, is suspected of raping a dozen female students, who were underage, until they became pregnant and gave birth to nine children.
The Solidarity Committee for the Protection of Women and Children (KSPPA) of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) has condemned the alleged barbaric action.
"We will investigate and advocate for the case. We attended the trial and met the victims and their families. We were surprised because there seemed to be an attempt to cover up this case, so it wouldn't explode in the media," said KSPPA PSI coordinator Karen Pooroe in her statement, Thursday (9/12).
The incident came to light in the media after PSI spokesperson Mary Silvita wrote it on Instagram and Facebook.
"KSPPA PSI regrets the prosecutor's indictment which does not include Government Regulation (PP) Number 70/2020 concerning the castration sentence for perpetrators of sexual violence against children," said Karen.
The PP was signed by President Joko Widodo on December 7, 2020, she added.
"We think this sentence is important to solve sexual violence cases against children, provide a deterrent effect on perpetrators, and prevent sexual violence against children," she said.
The case has been rolled out at the Bandung District Court but held behind closed doors.
