jpnn.com, PARIS - Surprise after surprise happened in the first round of the 2021 French Open.

After Anders Antonsen from Denmark was brushed off by a non-seeded player from Hong Kong, Lee Cheuk Yiu, now it's Lee Zii Jia, the world's number 8 player from Malaysia, who was defeated by number 40 player Loh Kean Yew.

In the match that took place at Stade Pierre de Coubertin, Paris, Wednesday (27/10), Lee gave up two straight games 22-24 and 14-21 to the Singaporean representative in just 39 minutes.

These results certainly make the 2021 French Open a "graveyard" for a number of top singles.

On the same day, Danish champion Viktor Axelsen also had to withdraw earlier from the level 750 tournament due to an injury when playing against Heo Kwang-hee from South Korea.

Axelsen only lasted a few minutes before finally quitting. (bwf/mcr15/mcr20/jpnn)
