Pesantren Rapist's Trial to Involve Provincial Prosecutor's Office
jpnn.com, JAWA BARAT - The trial of an accused rapist, Herry Wirawan, a caretaker of a pesantren (Islamic boarding school) in West Java who allegedly molested a dozen female students, will involve the provincial Prosecutor's Office.
This is an agreement made by the Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Ministry, the West Java Prosecutor's Office, the West Java administration, the Religious Affairs Ministry, and other related parties.
"The West Java Prosecutor's Office will be a public prosecutor to ensure the most severe demands against the accused," said PPPA Minister I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati at a press conference, Tuesday (14/12).
According to her, this step was necessary to give the defendant an appropriate punishment for his depraved act.
The minister emphasized that Herry's alleged sexual abuse against his female students was an extraordinary crime.
"This extraordinary crime requires extraordinary energy to handle the case, so the victims can get justice," she said.
