jpnn.com, NTT - Head of the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Health and Civil Registration Agency, Mese Ataupah, has reported that at least 5,000 doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine in the province have expired.

This amount is part of the 110,000 doses of AstraZeneca supplied for NTT recently. The 5,000 doses should have been injected by the end of October 2021.

"There were around 110,000 doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine that were sent to us because other provinces refused to receive the vaccine," said Mese.

The agency decided to accept the supply of the vaccine because at that time, NTT was almost out of the stock of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The Covid-19 vaccine supplied by the Health Ministry was then distributed to districts and cities in NTT.

There were several districts that refused the vaccine doses because they were afraid that they would not be able to finish them before the validity period ended.

"They were worried that they wasted the vaccine doses when they were no longer usable," said Mese.

According to Mese, about 90 percent of the 110,000 doses of AstraZeneca have been used before the expiration date.
