A resident named Sudirman said the burned houses were also business places, including a restaurant, a chicken porridge seller, and an electronics seller.
West Tanjung Jabung Regent Anwar Sadat asked the public to increase their vigilance.
He appealed to residents to always check stoves and turn off electronic devices before leaving their homes.
