Marzouki told Al Jazeera TV he was not surprised about the restraining order issued against him.

He called the move a "threatening message to all Tunisians".

Marzouki, who in recent weeks lived in France, served as president from 2011 to 2014.

France is the former colonial ruler of Tunisia and is still quite influential today.

Tunisia has issued an international notification for the arrest of former president Moncef Marzouki.
