Indonesia Ends in 1-1 Draw Against Singapore in AFF Semifinals
jpnn.com, SINGAPORE - The Indonesian national soccer team settled for a 1-1 draw against Singapore in the semifinals of the 2020 AFF Cup, Wednesday (22/12).
Competing at the National Stadium, Singapore, Indonesia took the lead at 28'. Witan Sulaeman managed to tear the Singapore goal after receiving a pass from Asnawi Mangkualam.
However, that advantage was broken after The Lions - the nickname of the Singaporean national team - were able to equalize the score at 70' through Ikhsan Fandi's sweet flick. As a result, the score 1-1 closed the match between Indonesia and Singapore.
The second leg of the semifinals will be held on 25 December to detemine who qualifies for the 2020 AFF Cup finals.
After the match, Indonesia coach Shin Tae Yong admitted that he was not satisfied with the result.
"I'm obviously not happy with the result, but honestly I had predicted that this would happen. It's a bit unfortunate that it happened against Singapore," said Shin Tae Yong.
The 52-year-old man also said that his players' stamina was a bit eroded, so they didn't play optimally.
"I saw the players looked tired after undergoing the group phase. It was very visible in the second half," said the former South Korean national team coach.
