2021 French Open: Who Represents Indonesia?
Jonatan Christie and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting have been ruled out due to injury.
There are also other names who will not participate in the game, including Tommy Sugiarto (men's single), Ruselli Hartawan (women's single), Bagas Maulana and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri (men's doubles), Pramudya Kusumawardhana and Yeremia Erich Rambitan (men's doubles), Hafiz Faizal and Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja (mixed doubles), as well as Adnan Maulana and Mychelle Crhystine Bandaso (mixed doubles).
There has been no official statement from the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) regarding the withdrawal of those athletes.
However, it is rumored that the withdrawal of Indonesian players is due to their Covid-19 vaccination. Those who are vaccinated with Chinese Sinovac cannot enter a number of European countries.
This was stated by the head of foreign affairs of the PBSI, Bambang Roedyanto, through a post on his personal twitter account @rudyroedyanto.
Pemain Indonesia sebagian tdk bisa ikut French open karena hrs 14 hari lbh di eropa… makanya Yere/ gloria/ Bagas hrs Ke Belgia dulu… ingat Sinovac tdk diakui — Rudy R. ( IG: rudy671367) (@RudyRoedyanto) September 17, 2021
"Some Indonesian players cannot participate in the French Open because they have to spend more than 14 days in Europe," he wrote.
"That's why Yere, Gloria, Bagas must go to Belgium first. Remember that Sinovac is not recognized."
A number of Indonesian badminton players will participate in the 2021 French Open.
