Tons of Salt Spread in Mandalika Air as World Superbike Postponed
jpnn.com, LOMBOK - To reduce rainfall at the Mandalika Circuit, the Indonesian Air Force and the National Innovation Research Agency (BRIN) have spread tons of salt in the air.
Heavy rains halted some races in Lombok, including the World Superbike (WSBK), World Supersport (WorldSSP), and Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup (IATC).
The salt is sown southeast of Central Lombok with weather modification technology.
"This is part of an effort to dispel clouds that have the potential to rain in the area near the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit. We hope that the World Superbike event can run safely and smoothly," said field coordinator Adi Bayu, as quoted by Radarlombok.co.id.
Authorities will carry out the weather modification for three days, piloted by Major Andika Ardyagana and First Lieutenant Yusuf Erlangga.
Adi said 800 kilograms of salt would be sprinkled at an altitude of 9,000 to 10,000 feet in a predetermined area.
