Kopassus Clashes with Brimob in Mimika, Papua
jpnn.com, PAPUA - A clash broke out between members of the Army Special Forces (Kopassus) from the Nanggala Task Force and Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel from the Amole Task Force, Papua, last Saturday (27/11).
Papua Police spokesman Senior Commissioner Ahmad Mustofa Kamal said the incident occurred in front of the Mess Hall, Mimika, Papua.
"It was an incident of misunderstanding," Kamal said on Monday.
He explained that the incident began when six members of the Amole Task Force at the RCTU Ridge Camp Mile 72 were selling cigarettes.
"Then, 20 personnel of the Nanggala Task Force arrived to buy cigarettes," said Kamal.
The Kopassus members complained that the cigarettes sold by the Brimob members were very expensive.
Beatings using blunt and sharp weapons took place against six Brimob personnel who were selling cigarettes.
Kamal confirmed that the incident was just a misunderstanding and had been resolved peacefully.
