Indonesia's Omicron Tally Doubles to 136

jpnn.com, JAKARTA - The Health Ministry reported that as of Friday (31/12), an addition of 68 Omicron cases in Indonesia had been detected, bringing the total number to 136.

According to the minstry's spokesperson, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, the 68 new cases were international travelers, 11 of whom were Indonesian citizens.

"All cases are international travelers, with the most coming from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States," Siti said in a press release received in Jakarta, Saturday (1/1).

Of the 68 confirmed Omicron cases, 29 people have no symptoms, 29 others have mild symptoms, one have moderate symptoms, and the rest are yet to be described.

According to Nadia, the Omicron variant has a high transmission rate, but with a low risk of serious illness.

Even so, she said, people still had to remain vigilant because the situation could change quickly.

Nadia appealed to the public to refrain from traveling to countries with high Omicron transmission rates.

"We must work together to protect those closest to us from contracting Covid-19. Let's hold ourselves back," said Siti. (antara/mcr20/jpnn)
