One International Traveler Escapes Quarantine at Wisma Atlet: Luhut
jpnn.com, JAKARTA - One international traveler has escaped quarantine at the Wisma Atlet emergency hospital in Jakarta, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan has said.
This has sparked concerns that there may be undetected cases of Omicron in the community.
During a press conference on Covid-19 mitigation, Monday (27/12), Luhut said the government implemented a special quarantine at Wisma Atlet so that Omicron carriers would not spread the new variant to other people.
"But we still don't know how many people coming home from other areas have escaped. It turned out that there was one person who escaped from [Wisma Atlet] because he went with his family," said Luhut.
Luhut hoped that such an incident would not repeat.
"Some dispensation can only be granted for doctors and health workers, or when there are urgent matters. However, there are procedures that must be followed as well," he said.
Luhut said the government would continue to strengthen surveillance to prevent leaks at airports and quarantine spots.
The government will also take anticipatory steps against an expected surge in the number of international travelers early next year. In addition, the government is evaluating the readiness of Juanda Airport as an alternative entrance to Indonesia.
