jpnn.com, JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo has ordered his subordinates to move quickly to mitigate the natural disaster of the Mount Semeru eruption that occurred on Saturday (4/12).

The order was addressed to National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) head Lt. Gen. Suharyanto, TNI Commander General Andika Perkasa, and National Police chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, among others.

This was conveyed by State Secretary Pratikno in a statement on Sunday (5/12), saying that the President had also ordered an accelerated action of the National Mitigation Agency (BNPB) head, the Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) head, the Social Affairs Minister, the Health Minister, the Public Works and Public Housing Minister, and East Java officials.

"[The President orders] an immediate action and responsive steps for emergency services, search and rescue, providing care to the injured, and handling the impact of disasters," said Pratikno.

The government also appealed to the public to follow the directions of officials in the field and remain vigilant.

"Regional heads and government officials should always be vigilant and invite the public to be alert as well," Pratikno said.

On behalf of the government, Pratikno expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims who died.

"May God Almighty always provide help and protection to all of us and make it easier for us to face every challenge," he said. (tan/mcr20/jpnn)
