jpnn.com, JAKARTA TIMUR - The police have arrested a man with the initials MR (19) for harassing a woman, MB (28), on a street in Cipayung, East Jakarta.

Street harassment has been a common occurrence in the capital city lately, with the harassers often driving on a motorbike around the alleys to find their target.

East Jakarta Police Chief Senior Commissioner Erwin Kurniawan said the perpetrator was arrested at a house in the Bambu Apus area in Cipayung on Tuesday (19/10).

The perpetrator is a student at a private university in East Jakarta.

"We still need to do a medical check-up to find out whether the perpetrator has an abnormality or not," Erwin said at the Ciracas Police Headquarters on Friday (22/10).

Erwin added that this was not the first time the perpetrator had committed such crime.

"This was his second time. He had done it a few months earlier, but the case had been reconciled. The location was the same, in a nearby area too, in Cipayung," said Erwin.

The perpetrator was subject to Article 281 of the Criminal Code concerning damaging courtesy in public. If found guilty, he will face jail time up to two years and eight months.
