Gamelan Recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage

The Director General of Culture at the Ministry of Education and Culture, Hilmar Farid, also welcomed the stipulation of gamelan as an intangible cultural heritage.
"UNESCO's recognition means world recognition so as to improve the image of the Indonesian nation in the eyes of the international community," he said.
He added that the Indonesian people were required to preserve the gamelan culture. (esy/mcr20/jpnn)

Gamelan was officially designated as an intangible cultural heritage at the UNESCO session in Paris, France, Wednesday (15/12).
