PDI-P Politician Reacts to MUI's Cyber Team for Anies
jpnn.com, JAKARTA - PDI-P politician Kapitra Ampera has responded to the discourse on the formation of a cyber army by the Jakarta Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to defend Anies Baswedan from buzzer attacks.
This followed a recent controversy surrounding Anies after a photo of him reading a book by suspected terrorist Farid Okbah went viral.
According to Kapitra, it would be inappropriate to form a cyber team just to defend Anies.
"It is not appropriate for Anies to be defended by the MUI. They should have defended the ulama, many Islamic leaders, not just him," Kapitra told JPNN.com, Sunday (21/11).
Kapitra firmly said that the MUI should not be used by the Jakarta governor for his political interests.
"Don't let the MUI be used by Anies. Yes, there's a war against buzzers, but what must be defended is religion, the people, and the nation, not individuals. There are many Islamic leaders. President Jokowi is Muslim, the vice president is a scholar, why not defend them?" he stressed.
He also added that the MUI should be above any groups.
Kapitra believed that if the Jakarta MUI formed a cyber army, it should be of the interests of the people and the Islamic religion.
