Indonesia Denies Normalizing Relations With Israel: Ministry

jpnn.com, JAKARTA - The Indonesian Foreign Ministry has responded to Israeli media reports saying United States Foreign Minister Antony Blinken wanted to normalize relations between Indonesia and Israel during his visit to Jakarta last week.

The idea was expressed by Blinken considering that Israel had normalized its relations with four Arab countries.

"Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi conveyed Indonesia's consistent position towards Palestine. Indonesia will continue with the Palestinian people to fight for justice and independence," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Teuku Faizasyah in a statement in Jakarta, Friday.

Currently, four Arab countries have normalized diplomatic relations with Israel, namely the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco.

Israeli officials who were aware of the discussions considered that no breakthrough would be possible regarding the normalization of diplomatic relations between Israel and Indonesia. (ant/dil/mcr20/jpnn)
