Zimbabwe's Largest Hospital Paralyzed, Hundreds of Staff Get Omicron

jpnn.com, ZIMBABWE - Zimbabwe's largest hospital has been paralyzed after 436 staff members from all departments at the hospital were exposed to the new variant of Covid-19, Omicron.

Hundreds of staff members at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals were isolated due to Omicron.

According to a spokesman for the Linos Dhire hospital, operations had been reduced, the New Ziana news agency reported, Friday (17/12) local time.

Zimbabwe recorded a 472 percent jump in new cases of Covid-19 in the past two weeks due to the Omicron variant.

This condition forced the government to reduce surgical practice in hospitals to 30 percent and tighten Covid-19 prevention measures.

The African country reported 4,247 cases and 12 deaths of Covid-19 on Thursday (16/12).

This led to a total of 186,304 cases, with 4,771 deaths.

More than four million people have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and over three million people have received the second dose.
