'Thailand Played Perfectly': Shin Tae Yong Admits Indonesia's Defeat

jpnn.com, SINGAPORE - Indonesian national soccer coach Shin Tae Yong has acknowledged Thailand's superiority over his team in the first leg of the 2020 AFF Cup Finals at the National Stadium, Singapore, Wednesday (29/12).

Shin admitted that Thailand played better and with more experienced, which led to their victory over Indonesia.

"Thailand played perfectly today, but we didn't," said Shin in a virtual press conference.

Shin assessed that his players were nervous after the opponents scored their first goal.

The South Korean tactician considered that this was due to the lack of experience of his players.

Of all the Indonesian players in the final match, only Fachruddin Aryanto had performed in an AFF Cup final. In 2016, Fachruddin was there when Indonesia also played against Thailand.

Evan Dimas was actually part the 2016 AFF Cup final squad, but he only filled the bench for the two final legs.

"Our problem is the lack of experience. Thailand's first goal made the players nervous, and we struggled. Actually we had a chance to equalize the game at the end of the first half, but Alfeandra Dewangga failed to score," said Shin.

The Indonesian team lost 0-4 to Thailand in the first leg on Wednesday night.

Two of Thailand's four goals were scored by Chanathip Songkrasin, and the rest were each contributed by Supachok Sarachart and Bordin Phala.
