jpnn.com, SINGAPORE - The Indonesian and Vietnamese national soccer teams were both architected by coaches from South Korea.

The Garuda squad belongs to Shin Tae Yong, while the Vietnam squad is led by Park Hang Seo. The two tacticians have almost the same characteristics when it comes to training: both are strict.

However, the two show different personalities when being in front of the media. Shin Tae Yong is known to be calm, while Park Hang Seo is often fiery.

Recently, the two coaches clashed when the Indonesian national team played against Vietnam on the third matchday of Group B of the 2020 AFF Cup, Wednesday (15/6).

Prior to meeting Indonesia, Vietnam coach Park Hang Seo had a fairly high win statistic with The Golden Star.

Since managing Vietnam in 2017, he has brought his team to 80 percent of victories against countries in Southeast Asia, with details of 14 wins, four draws, and zero lost.

Vietnam also appeared strong in the first two matches of the AFF Cup 2020. Nguyen Cong Phuong and friends beat Laos 2-0 and Malaysia 3-0.

However, last night, Wednesday (15/12), the power of the Vietnamese players was suppressed by Shin Tae Yong's Indonesian team.

The Golden Star can indeed release 21 shots. However, only one hit the target. This indicates that Garuda's defense is difficult to penetrate.

The five-aligned defenders scheme that was put together by Asnawi Mangkualam, Fachrudin Aryanto, Alfeandra Dewangga, Rizky Ridho, and Pratama Arhan really made things difficult for Vietnam.

Shin Tae Yong is like a stumbling block for Park Hang Seo, who is famous for being fierce when his team meets ASEAN countries.

Long before the two of them ventured into ASEAN, Shin Tae Yong and Park Hang Seo's coaching careers crossed paths in South Korea.

Park Hang Seo had been an assistant coach to Guus Hiddink in the South Korean national team at the 2002 World Cup.

However, since leaving that position, Park Hang Seo had mostly handled Korean mediocre clubs. He did not even have the chance to coach the South Korean senior team yet.

Shin Tae Yong, despite being 13 years younger than Park Hang Seo, was entrusted with coaching the South Korean national team at the 2018 World Cup.

The 51-year-old coach even surprised the world when South Korea was able to beat the reigning World Cup champions, the Germany team, with a score of 2-1. (mcr15/mcr20/jpnn)
