jpnn.com, DENPASAR - The recent extreme weather has affected the local tap water in Denpasar, Bali, making it not fit for consumption.
The disruption of clean water supply occurred in at least four districts in Denpasar, namely West, East, South, and North Denpasar districts.

The tap water has become very cloudy as it is mixed with soil and mud.
The water is supplied by Perumda Tirta Sewakadarma (Denpasar PDAM) from the Belusung Water Treatment Plant in Peguyangan Kaja village, North Denpasar.

To inspect the situation, Denpasar Deputy Mayor Kadek Agus Arya Wibawa directly checked the Belusung Water Treatment Plant on Wednesday (22/12).
Arya was accompanied by members of the Denpasar Legislative Council, I Wayan Sutama and I Nyoman Gede Sumara Putra, as well as North Denpasar district head I Nyoman Lodra.

Denpasar PDAM director IB Gede Arsana explained that the extreme weather in the last few weeks had caused this disturbance.
Arya added that due to high rainfall, the water tunnel and intake were filled with mud and overflowed, causing the clean water to become cloudy.
"I apologize to the public for the disturbance caused by the extreme weather," said Arya.
As a solution, he added, Denpasar PDAM will build a canal to minimize disturbances.
Work on the intake canal itself will begin in January 2022. The water extraction is carried out separately from the Badung PDAM. (gie/mcr20/jpnn)
