Ubaya Students Awarded Scholarships After Winning Medals at PON Papua
english.jpnn.com, JAWA TIMUR - As the 2021 National Games (PON) in Papua concludes, a number of students from the University of Surabaya (Ubaya) in East Java who have won a medal in the games are adding campus scholarships to their portfolio of achievements.
The university pockets seven medals.
"Two gold medals, four silver medals, and one bronze medal," said Ubaya chancellor Benny Lianto on Tuesday (19/10).
Benny expressed his gratitude to all the student athletes who had given their best in the once-in-four-year national event.
"Ubaya extends its appreciation to the student achievements in the non-academic field by giving scholarships to those who won medals," he said.
With the scholarship, the athletes are free from administration and semester fees, the chancellor detailed.
Four Ubaya students who were part of the East Java Women's Basketball team in the 2021 PON won gold medals. They were Christine Aldora Tjundawan, Fransisca Inge, and Devy Kartika Putri from the Faculty of Business and Economics, plus Amelia Ryan Ayu Ardhany from the Faculty of Engineering.
Fransisca said she and her team members were grateful for the attention and support given by the academic community.
A number of students from East Java who have won a medal at the 2021 National Games in Papua are getting campus scholarships.
