english.jpnn.com, JAWA TIMUR - Two people are declared dead and 11 others remain missing due to the flash flood that hit Batu city, Malang, East Java, Thursday (4/11).

"Initial data shows that two people are dead and two others are isolated," said East Java Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) head of emergency, Satriyo Nurseno.

The flood was triggered by heavy rainfall and the blockage of logs in the upstream of the river.

Based on data from the East Java BPBD, five villages were affected, namely Sumber Brantas, Bulu Kerto, Tulung Rejo, Padang Rejo, and Sidomulyo.

The agency also reported that some vehicles had been swept away and one resident's house had been submerged.

"Four people have been found, all safe. However, 11 others have not been found," said Batu BPBD head of emergency and logistics Achmad Choirur Rochim on Thursday evening.

In order to accelerate the flood mitigation, the BPBD team was assisted by the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police to coordinate, review, collect further data, and prepare refugee locations. (antara/mcr12/mcr20/jpnn)
