Hundreds of Houses in Karawang Submerged by Flood
english.jpnn.com, KARAWANG - The Karawang Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) said hundreds of houses in the Cilamaya Wetan area in Karawang, West Java, were flooded.
The flood was caused by high rainfall, which triggered the overflow of the Cilamaya River.
Head of the Karawang BPBD, Yasin Nasrudin, said that his agency had dispatched officers to help residents that were affected.
"There were two neighborhood units in the housing area that were hit by the flood," he said in Karawang, Tuesday (2/11).
The two neighborhood units were RT 09 of RW 05 and RT 10 of RW 05, with a total of 239 houses being submerged. About 262 families or 770 people were affected by the flood.
"The water level reached 20-50 centimeters. Most of the residents did not want to evacuate. They were still in their respective homes," said Yasin.

By Tuesday evening, the flood had begun to recede. However, Karawang BPBD officers are still on standby at the location to anticipate further flooding. (antara/mcr20/jpnn)
