Omicron Detected in Indonesia, House Asks Public Not to Panic

jpnn.com, JAKARTA - House Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad asked the public not to get panicked after the first Omicron patient was detected in Indonesia, Thursday (16/12).

Dasco asked the public to remain vigilant and not be careless in implementing health protocols.

"To businessmen, especially food and entertainment industry players, please maintain health protocols in your respective areas. We must not let our guard down," Dasco told reporters at the parliament complex, Thursday (16/12).

The Gerindra politician said he left it entirely to the government regarding the next steps to be taken.

"I think the government will take necessary steps after learning this news, and we are waiting for the government to do so as soon as possible," he continued.

Previously, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said that the Omicron Covid-19 variant had arrived in Indonesia. 

"Last night, the Health Ministry confirmed that a patient, N, had Omicron," said Budi.

According to Budi, the first detected Omicron patient was a janitor who served Covid-19 patients.

In addition, there were five other people who were suspected of contracting the new variant of Covid-19. They are now under quarantine. (mcr8/mcr20/jpnn)
