KPK Deputy: Almost No Corruption-Free Political Party
jpnn.com, JEMBER - Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) deputy chairman Nurul Ghufron said that almost no political parties and regional administrations were free from corruption.
As of June 2021, there were 155 regional heads involved in corruption cases, with 22 of them being governors and the rest being regents, mayors, and their deputies, he said.
Corruption cases involving regional heads have occurred in 25 out of 34 provinces in Indonesia, he added.
"There are almost no corruption-free regions, almost no corruption-free political parties, across all lines of public service," said Nurul in a public lecture at the University of Jember in East Java on Friday (22/10).
He said that the anti-corruption agency had handled a total of 739 bribery cases from 2004 to May 2021. Bribery is the type of corruption with the most cases handled by the KPK to date.
"The second one is the flawed procurement of goods and services with 236 cases," he said.
It was followed by budget misuse with 50 cases, money laundering with 38 cases, illegal levies with 26 cases, wrongful licensing with 23 cases, and the obstruction of KPK processes with 10 cases.
Nurul added that based on profession, the most corrupt perpetrators were private sector players with 343 cases, while the second highest were members of the legislative councils with 282 cases.
