jpnn.com, SUDAN SELATAN - South Sudan's President Salva Kiir has sacked Athian Diing Athian from the post of finance minister and Paul Mayom Akec as interior minister.

Salva did not mention the reason for the dismissal of the two assistants.

This was broadcast by the state TV station and the president's press secretary on Friday night (12/11) local time.

Athian Diing Athian's position is now filled by Achuil Lual, while Mahmoud Solomon Agook is promoted to minister of the interior.

Presidential press secretary Ateny Wek Ateny said the changes would not affect the functioning of the government.

South Sudan became independent from Sudan in 2011.

Two years later, however, the two became embroiled in a battle when forces loyal to Kiir and forces loyal to then-rival Riek Machar clashed in the capital.

The civil war ended with a ceasefire agreement in 2018.
