There are a number of Singaporean players that the Garuda squad should be wary of, one of whom is The Lions' mainstay striker, Ikhsan Fandi.

The 22-year-old bomber was a strong player in four matches in the group phase.

Having a height of 183 cm, above the average players in Southeast Asia, Ikhsan is a real threat to Indonesia's defense line.

Throughout the 2020 AFF Cup, Ikhsan has scored two goals, all of which were made when playing against Myanmar in the inaugural game.

His ability to score goals is inherited from his father, Fandi Ahmad, who is a Singapore football legend.

Fandi is certainly familiar to soccer lovers in Indonesia because he was the architect of Indonesian club Pelita Jaya from 2006 to 2010.

Indonesia and Singapore seem to be slices in the career journeys of Fandi and his family.

Ikhsan, on the other hand, is friends with Syahrian Abhimanyu, Indonesia's midfielder. Their friendship started when Fandi was living in Indonesia.

Now, Ikhsan will meet the Garuda squad in the 2020 AFF Cup semifinals, and of course, he will have to put aside his closeness to Indonesia.

Shin Tae Yong's troops will strictly guard the movement of Ikhsan, who has had a career in Europe from a young age.

Ikhsan strengthened Norwegian club Raufoss in 2019 and 2020, before changing clubs to FK Jerv.

Despite his young age, Ikhsan, who has South African blood from his mother, has already won 20 caps with The Lions, contributing 10 goals. (mcr15/mcr20/jpnn)
