Jokowi Appoints General Andika as Candidate for TNI Commander

jpnn.com, JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has chosen Army Chief of Staff General Andika Perkasa as a candidate for the Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander to replace Air Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto.

"The House of Representatives has received a presidential letter regarding the proposed candidate for the TNI Commander on behalf of Andika to replace Hadi that has entered retirement," said House Speaker Puan Maharani at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday (3/11).

Puan confirmed this after she met with State Secretary Pratikno, who directly handed over the presidential letter.

Puan said that the President only proposed one candidate for the TNI Commander to the House.

The House will immediately follow up on the proposal in accordance with the applicable mechanism, namely assigning Commission I of the House to carry out a fit and proper test.

"Furthermore, Commission I will report the results of the feasibility test in a plenary meeting before we give approval to the candidate proposed by the President," she said. (antara/mcr20/jpnn)
