Seven Foreigners in Bali Apply for Indonesian Citizenship

jpnn.com, BALI - The Law and Human Rights Ministry noted that there were seven foreigners in Bali applying for Indonesian citizenship throughout 2021.

According to the ministry's Bali office, there were four applicants from various countries, who filed for Indonesian citizenship between February and September 2021.

The four people were Marlon Gerber from Switzerland, Michael Szarata from Germany, Ni Wayan Samantha Isabhela Keatinge from Australia, and Oyagi Shufa from Japan.

Meanwhile, in November and December, there were three more applicants, namely Troy Sinclair from England, Afandy Dharma Fairbrother from England, and Israel Rovirosa Figueroa from Mexico.

According to the ministry's Bali office head, Jamaruli Manihuruk, some of the applicants had lived in Bali since their childhood. However, there were also those who applied for Indonesian citizenship due to a romantic relationship.

Jamaruli said his office was still examining their eligibility for the citizenship.

"Until now, they are still in the assessment process," he said.

According to Jamaruli, the process takes time because it requires a careful assessment.

"We must not be careless. We must really assess the seriousness of the foreigners concerned," he said.
