Advancing to Top 16, Malaysian Duo to Compete Against Compatriots

jpnn.com, BALI - Malaysian men's doubles badminton players Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik have advanced to the top 16 of the 2021 Indonesia Open after defeating representatives of Germany, Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel.

Competing at the Bali International Convention Center, Tuesday (23/11), Aaron and Soh won two straight games with a score of 25-23 and 21-12.

After the match, Soh admitted that he and Aaron had a hard time dealing with the world number 16 German pair.

"This match was not easy. We often lost focus when pressed. Luckily, we were able to improve and won the game," said Soh.

As the fifth seed at the 2021 Indonesia Open, Aaron and Soh agreed that there was a certain pressure. However, Aaron said it was not an obstacle.

"The pressure is definitely there because we are the seed. We don't want to care about that because we want to play well in every game," added Aaron.

The victory over Germany saw Aaron and Soh qualify for the top 16 against their compatriots, Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi.

In the previous match, Ong and Teo won the duel against fellow Malaysian representatives Tan Kia Meng and Tan Wee Kiong with an identical score of 21-11 and 21-11.
