The surprise occurred in the men's singles sector as Loh Kean Yew managed to become the champion after Lee Zii Jia chose to withdraw in the third game when the position was running 21-19, 13-21, 12-17.
Loh Kean Yew became the first Singaporean to win the BWF Superseries 500 title.
