11 Houses in Bandung Forcibly Evicted, KAI Speaks Out

jpnn.com, BANDUNG - State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) has spoken out regarding the forced eviction of 11 houses on Jalan Jawa, Bandung City, West Java, Tuesday (7/12).

Representatives of PT KAI said that the houses would be demolished because they were illegally occupying the land of the state-owned company.

DAOP 2 Bandung spokesman Kuswardoyo said the demolition of the houses was based on a decision of the Bandung City District Court.

Kuswardoyo said that since April 2015, PT KAI had made persuasive efforts to the users of the company asset.

"We've persuaded them to hand the land back to PT KAI," Kuswardoyo said, Tuesday (7/12).

However, Kuswardoyo said, the residents filed a lawsuit against PT KAI instead.

"The occupants did not heed the warning letter from PT KAI, and instead they jointly filed a lawsuit against PT KAI through the Bandung District Court in August 2015," he said.

However, the Bandung District Court issued another decision, obliging anyone who occupied the land to vacate. In response, the residents filed an appeal.
