jpnn.com, SUMATERA UTARA - The North Sumatra Regional AIDS Commission (KPAD) has noted that there are 13,150 residents living with HIV or AIDS in the province.

The data is dominated by the age group of 19-49 years, taking 92 percent of the total number.

"Now, North Sumatra is in fifth position with the most HIV and AIDS sufferers in Indonesia," said North Sumatra KPAD chairman Ikrimah Hamidy, Thursday (2/12).

Ikrimah said from the overall data, HIV and AIDS were mostly suffered by men, which were around 9,497 people, while women were around 3,096 people.

"Most of the sufferers are men with money and high mobility," said Ikrimah.

In response to this, North Sumatra Governor Edy Rahmayadi said that he would soon establish a regional action plan for the prevention and control of HIV and AIDS in North Sumatra.

According to him, prevention and control of HIV and AIDS requires concrete and measurable steps.

"We need concrete steps. We will budget for this," said Edy.
