Hundreds of Troubled Migrant Workers in Malaysia Sent Home

jpnn.com, JAKARTA - A total of 386 problematic Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia were deported by the government via Soekarno-Hatta Airport. They consisted of 229 men, 140 women, eight boys, and nine girls.

Deputy for the Coordination of Quality Improvement for Children, Women, and Youth of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture, Femmy Eka Putri, revealed that since March 2021, at least 1,361 problematic Indonesian migrant workers had been repatriated from Malaysia by air or by sea.

All of them have gone through the verification and data collection process, have obtained a PCR test certificate with a negative result, and have been vaccinated at least the first dose.

"The repatriation process has gone quite well. They will be quarantined at the Pademangan Athlete Village first," she said in Jakarta, Tuesday (2/11).

Femmy also said that after the repatriation, the ex-workers would be helped to start making income to meet their daily needs in their respective areas of origin.

She hoped that the relevant local government would also help the returned workers.
