Citing the BWF website, Axelsen now has 113,979 points, while Momota dropped to second place with 112,210 points.

Axelsen's success over Momota cannot be separated from his win at the 2021 Indonesia Open after defeating Singaporean prodigy Loh Kean Yew with a score of 21-13, 9-21, and 21-13.
Throughout the 2021 calendar, Axelsen and Momota have had very different seasons.

Axelsen was able to win six prestigious trophies, consisting of the 2021 Thailand Open (2), the 2021 Swiss Open, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, the 2021 Denmark Open, and the 2021 Indonesia Open.
Meanwhile, Momota has only won one tournament in 2021, namely the Indonesia Masters, which took place a few weeks ago.
