Two Indonesian Bets Won't Participate in 2021 French Open

jpnn.com, JAKARTA - Two mainstay Indonesian badminton players in men's singles, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonatan Christie, will not take part in the upcoming 2021 French Open on October 26 to October 31.

This was revealed by the assistant coach of the Indonesian men's singles, Irwanyah.

He said that Ginting and Jonatan were actually injured when they appeared at the 2020 Thomas Cup.

"Ginting and Jonotan will not appear in the French Open due to injuries. Ginting was injured against Viktor Axelsen in the semifinals [of the Thomas Cup], while Jonatan [was injured] in the finals against Li Shi Feng," he said.

Ginting and Jonatan will return to Indonesia to recover and prepare for a tournament in Bali.

"Their motivation was so great that they overcame the pain to bring Indonesia to win the 2020 Thomas Cup. Now they will go back straight to their homeland and focus on the tournament in Bali," added Irwansyah.

As reported previously, Jonatan withdrew from the match against Kento Momota from Japan at the 2021 Denmark Open.

Jonatan, who had lost 13-21 in the first game, backed off in the second game when the score showed 0-15.

The 24-year-old badminton player reportedly had a waist issue.

Ginting also suffered an injury at the 2021 Denmark Open.
