Failing to Win Indonesia Masters, The Minions Still Get Millions

jpnn.com, BALI - Indonesian men's doubles badminton players Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo have failed to win the 2021 Indonesia Masters after being defeated by Japanese pair Takuro Hoki and Yugo Kobayashi. 

Competing at the Bali International Convention Center, Sunday (21/11), the pair nicknamed The Minions gave up in a rubber game with a score of 11-21, 21-17, and 19-21.

Even though they failed to get on the highest podium, The Minions were lucky enough because this Super 750 tournament provided many prizes. 

The event, which was the opening of the 2021 Indonesia Badminton Festival (IBF) series, provided a total prize of US$600,000 (approximately Rp 8.5 billion).

In its regulations, BWF ensures that every contestant who can penetrate the top four of the 2021 Indonesia Masters is entitled to a certain amount of money. 

For the singles category, the winner of the Indonesia Masters is rewarded US$42,000 (Rp 599.3 million), the runner-up receives US$20,400 (Rp 291 million), and the semifinalist receives US$8,400 (Rp 119.8 million).

Then, in the doubles, the champion is entitled to pocket US$44,400 (Rp 633.5 million), the runner-up US$21,000 (Rp 305.3 million), and the semifinalist US$8,400 (Rp 119.8 million). 

That means, The Minions who play in the doubles category are entitled to receive a prize of Rp 305.3 million from the 2021 Indonesia Masters event. 

Meanwhile, Japanese players Hockey and Kobayashi pocketed Rp 633.5 million after being the winner of the tournament in Bali. (bwf/mcr15/mcr20/jpnn)
