The colleague immediately reported the incident to his superior, the police chief.

MN was on duty at the Wanasaba Police, East Lombok Regency. He was suspected of murdering Khairul using a long-barreled firearm.

An initial investigation found that MN allegedly took the firearm from his place of duty secretly without the knowledge or permission of his superiors.

The use of the rifle should be with the permission of the leadership because it is a police inventory.

"Because it is in the police station, its use must be approved by the police chief," Herman said.

A crime scene examination found that Khairul was dead at around 11.20 a.m. local time, about four hours after his body was discovered.

An autopsy at the Mataram Bhayangkara Hospital showed the victim was killed by a gunshot to his right chest.

This fact is corroborated by findings at the crime scene, where two bullet casings believed to have come from the long-barreled rifle were found.

The perpetrator admitted that he had shot Khairul when he returned the rifle to its place of duty.

"After the perpetrator shot [Khairul], he returned the gun to the police station and informed his colleagues at the police station that he had just shot the victim," said Herman.

MN was immediately named a murder suspect.

Investigators are still tracing the motive behind it. (sam/antara/mcr20/jpnn)
