jpnn.com, MALANG - Hail hit Malang, East Java, on Thursday (23/12) following heavy rain and strong wind, according to local residents.
One local, Shinta Dwi Pranadewi, stated that the hail hit Pakis district at around 1 p.m.

Shinta said she heard a sound like pebbles falling on the roof of her house.
"The hail didn't last long, only about ten minutes," she said.

Shinta said she was afraid the power pole would collapse, but luckily there was no damage around the area.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has confirmed the hail.

BMKG Malang station head Anung Suprayitno said the phenomenon was caused by cumulonimbus clouds, which were formed due to the scorching heat during the day.
"Cumulonimbus clouds at the mature stage experience extreme cooling or condensation, so they have the potential to fall in the form of ice particles. Hail comes from cumulonimbus clouds, but not all cumulonimbus clouds cause hail," said Anung, Thursday (23/12).
Besides Pakis district, the hail also hit Kedungkandang district.
Anung explained that it was very local and unlikely to happen again in the same place.
According to him, the hail was one of the effects of extreme weather at the change of seasons.
