Six Chinese Citizens Suspected of Illegal Mining in Papua

jpnn.com, PAPUA - Six foreign nationals from China are suspected of illegal mining in Wapoga, Waropen, Papua.

According to the Law and Human Rights Ministry's Papua immigration head, Novianto Sulastono, the six have now been arrested.

The Chinese citizens, who were arrested on November 20, were given different sanctions.

Three of them, namely Yan Gamping, Ge Jungfeng, and Tan Liguo, were deported.

In addition, Tan Liguo is now banned from entering Indonesia.

Three other perpetrators, namely Tang Lihua, Lan Feng, and Lu Huacheng, will be handled by the directorate of immigration supervision and enforcement in Jakarta.

Novianto said that after the six foreigners were arrested by members of the Wapoga Police, they were taken to the Yapen military district command in Serui. They were then transferred to Biak to be submitted to the immigration office.

According to the information obtained, the perpetrators went to Waropen on orders from their partners who were in quarantine in Jakarta upon their return from China.

"They have partners in Nabire, and the case is still being investigated," said Novianto.

He also said that of the six foreigners arrested, only three had passports. Meanwhile, the rest admitted that their passports were kept by their sponsor.

They entered Indonesia through Soekarno-Hatta Airport separately.

Tan Liguo had entered the country since May 12, 2018, using a visa on arrival that was valid for only 30 days. Therefore, apart from being deported, Tan is also banned from entering Indonesia.
