jpnn.com, BATAM - Chairman of the Regional Child Protection Commission (KPAD) of Batam City, Abdillah, said that the Dirgantara Aviation Vocational High School in Batam had used a prison-like room to lock up and torture students as punishment.
Abdillah said the prison-like room was at the school, with an area of about 3X4 square meters. The space was considered unfit for humans.

"The room resembles an animal cage. We have the LPKA (Institution for Special Child Development), that's the only official prison for children. It's not anything like that," Abdillah told JPNN.com, Friday (19/11).
Abdillah admitted that he had visited the room some time ago.

"Only five minutes inside, I was already breathing like a gasping fish. It was hot, and the air ventilation was small. It was difficult for me to breathe even when I did not use a mask," Abdillah said.
According to Abdillah, the room was used for students who violated school regulations.

Based on victims' confession, the room was once filled with ten students or more.
"The children confessed that they just slept there like sardines for days and even up to a month," he said.
In addition, KPAI Commissioner Retno Listyarti also received two photos showing four shirtless students in the room.
"The photos each depict two children who were handcuffed on one hand, so that both of them had to be close together because they were tied with one handcuff," said Retno in a written statement, Thursday (11/18).
"More sadly, one of the children was also chained to his neck like an animal," continued Retno.
Previously, the KPAI received reports of alleged violence against students at the school. Besides being locked up, they were allegedly slapped and kicked. The victims were sentenced to be put in the room for months.
"In addition to being locked up, children were also be subjected to physical punishment such as beatings, and some victims even had their jaws shifted," said Retno. (cr1/mcr20/jpnn)
