jpnn.com, JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo has reminded all regional heads that the Covid-19 pandemic is not over yet although the number of active cases has been decreasing.

"[The number of cases] is in a good position, at a low position, but I need to remind you that this pandemic is not over yet," said Jokowi at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Monday (25/10), when giving a virtual briefing to regional heads in Indonesia.

Jokowi said that there were still a number of indicators that must be addressed properly, such as the bed occupancy rate and the positivity rate (the number of people who are positive for Covid-19 on top of all tests).

The current effective reproduction rate of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia is below the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The former Jakarta governor also assessed that the number of daily Covid-19 cases had decreased dramatically compared to the peak of transmission in July, which reached 56,000 people per day.

In the last four days, the daily cases of Covid-19 nationally were relatively low.

The number of new cases in Europe rose 23 percent this week, while South America 13 percent.

"This should remind us that we must remain cautious and vigilant because the world is still faced with uncertainty. Once again, there is an upward trend in world cases," said Jokowi.

Jokowi said that there were three things that caused the upward trend in Covid-19 cases.

The first is social relaxation that happens too fast and massively. Second, the public is no longer disciplined in implementing health protocols - even a number of countries have allowed removing masks. Third is face-to-face learning in schools. (tan/mcr20/jpnn)
