The President also praised AGO's handling of the ASABRI mega-corruption case. So far, seven defendants have been prosecuted, and one suspected corruptor is facing the death penalty. In addition, tens of trillions of rupiah were returned to the state treasury as compensation for losses due to the corrupt actions of the defendants.

However, Jokowi reminded law enforcement officials not to get carried away.

"Law enforcement officials, including those in the Corruption Eradication Commission, should not be complacent because efforts to eradicate corruption are still not considered good based on the public's assessment. Everyone should be aware of this," he said.

Jokowi said that corruption had greatly affected other aspects of life in the country.

"Corruption can disrupt employment opportunities. Corruption can also increase the price of basic necessities. If we compare it to neighboring countries in Southeast Asia, our ranking on the corruption perception index in 2021 needs some work," said Jokowi. (dil/mcr20/jpnn)
