jpnn.com, NIGERIA - The Nigerian government has recorded that 4,860 prisoners have escaped during attacks on Nigerian detention centers since last year.
Of these, only 984 prisoners have been re-arrested. Meanwhile, the remaining 3,876 prisoners are still at large.

This was stated by the Minister of Home Affairs of Nigeria, Rauf Aregbesola, Thursday (11/11) local time.
Aregbesola said the government had taken biometrics of all detainees in the country in the hope that it could be used to re-arrest them.

In recent months, there has been a spate of attacks by armed groups across Nigeria, including attacks on security facilities such as police stations and detention centres.
A total of 837 detainees awaiting trial escaped from the Medium Security Custodial Center in the Abolongo area of ??Oyo State on October 22.

The prisoners fled following the attack on the facility.
