jpnn.com, BALI - The New Year's Eve celebration in Bali was not as lively as it had been before the Covid-19 pandemic.

In capital city Denpasar, there were little explosions of fireworks, and the town was not as bustling as it used to be.

At Denpasar's Puputan Badung field, residents usually celebrated the new year with cultural arts performances and live music, but not this time.

Other areas in Bali were the same. In Tabanan, for example, the people chose to celebrate the New Year's Eve with their families. They grilled fish, while some fireworks were seen occasionally.

It seemed Balinese people were obedient to the government's and the village council's advice to just celebrate the New Year's Eve at home.

"The government and the Bali traditional village council have appealed to the public to avoid parties while celebrating the turn of the year because we are still in the midst of a pandemic," said Denpasar Covid-19 task force spokesman Dewa Gede Rai.

According to Dewa, public spots in Bali such as the Puputan Badung field, the Lumintang field, and the Renon field have been closed since the pandemic hit.

"Let's pray together that the pandemic will end soon," he said. (antara/lia/mcr20/jpnn)
