Rescue Team Finds Oil Spill, KM Liberty Items in Bali

jpnn.com, BALI - After finding two victims, one dead and one alive, of the KM Liberty 1 shipwreck in Bali, authorities found oil spills, life jackets, and logistics suspected of being part of the ship.

The Denpasar Class A Search and Rescue (SAR) Office has received support from the Indonesian Navy in an effort to find seven other crew members of KM Liberty 1.

The search was carried out by deploying the State Ship of SAR Arjuna 229, KRI Singa-651 and one unit of rigid inflatable boat.

"Our search efforts today are reinforced by a fleet of the Indonesian Navy with KRI Singa-651 to search in the area where KM Liberty 1 sank," said Head of the Bali Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Gede Darmada.

The discovery of the oil spill and the alleged items of the ship was about 25 NM southwest of the sinking location. 

Based on the calculation of Basarnas' SARMAP application, the current and wind directions are to the west, so Basarnas will expand the search to the west and north of Singaraja.

"To anticipate victims being carried by the current to the west, we deploy a unit of rigid inflatable boat," Gede said. (gie/mcr20/jpnn)
