Semeru Victims' Valuables Stolen from Their Abandoned Homes

jpnn.com, LUMAJANG - A number of evacuees who were victims of the Mount Semeru eruption in West Java has complained about the theft of their valuables.

Taking advantage of the situation, suspected thieves stole from a number of houses whose residents had gone to evacuation camps, according to information received by jatim.jpnn.com.

One of the victims, Suprayitno (55), admitted that he had lost millions of rupiah.

The theft occurred at his house in Kamar Kajang hamlet, Sumberwuluh village, Candipuro district, Lumajang regency.

"My money and land certificates were stored in a cupboard. The money was gone, while the certificates were scattered around," Suprayitno said, Saturday (11/12).

Suprayitno's neighbor, Sunarko, also had his valuables stolen.

According to Sunarko, his house was burglarized by an alleged perpetrator.

"My window was ripped out," he said.
