Update: 48 Die Due to Semeru Eruption, 11 Tracking Dogs Deployed
jpnn.com, JAWA TIMUR - The death toll from the eruption of Mount Semeru in East Java has increased to 48 people as of Monday (13/12).
Two more missing victims were found dead, according to the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB).
"The cumulative number of victims who are undergoing outpatient treatment at community health centers and health posts is 2,004," said BNPB disaster information and communication center acting head Abdul Muhari, Tuesday (14/12).
The search and rescue (SAR) team dispatched 11 sniffer dogs to search for missing victims.
Dozens of heavy equipment were also deployed in handling the eruption aftermath. One of the immediate goals was to open access to the national road between Lumajang and Malang.
The number of evacuees recorded at emergency response posts has reached 9,997, spread over 148 points in various regions.

The BNPB advised visitors and tourists not to move within a radius of 1 kilometer from the peak of Semeru, and 5 kilometers from the crater opening in the southeast-south sector. (antara/mcr20/jpnn)
