91 Percent of Disabled People Don't Have Internet Access: Survey
jpnn.com, JAKARTA - The lack of internet access is still a challenge for people with disabilities in the country.
The 2021 National Socio-Economic Survey shows that only nine percent of people with disabilities have had internet access.
"It is the government's responsibility to provide internet for all parties, including the disabled," said Nailul Huda, a researcher at the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) during an online forum, Tuesday (12/21).
In 2020, the number of disabled workers was reduced to 255,048 from 366,350 in the previous year, he cited Statistics Indonesia (BPS).
He said running an online business could be an option for people with disabilities to help restore the economy.
Meanwhile, Indef argued that the digital industry provided convenience and should be used by people with disabilities to be competitive.
The owner of The Able Art, Tommy Budianto, also argued that internet accessibility for people with disabilities was still lacking, hoping that relevant stakeholders could increase their digital literacy rate.
Tokopedia public affairs senior lead Aditia Grasio Nelwan said that his company was committed to providing an inclusive ecosystem for people with disabilities.
